Two weeks ago, the manager of the ICU got a message from the patient representative stating that a patient's wife was reaching out to try to get a hold of a wonderful nurse named Linda Marie who cared for her husband, J during his stay. C, the wife, left her number, so the manager called C to see what she had to say.
C described that even though Linda Marie only cared for her husband for one shift, the impact that she left on J, C, and the rest of the family was remarkable. C described Linda Marie's compassion, wonderful sense of humor, and how she made everyone feel at ease. J ended up being transferred to another facility on ECMO and passed away three weeks later. C has wanted to reach out to Linda Marie since J's passing to let her know how much she, J, and the entire family greatly appreciated the care that was given to their father and husband. She knew only her first name and even tried searching Facebook and other avenues but was not able to find her.
C and her daughters spoke of Linda Marie often, and recently during a drive through St. Paul, one of her daughters said, "Mom you just need to call United and find that nurse." Thus, here we are today to recognize Linda Marie as a DAISY Nurse and give C and her daughter the opportunity to say what they have wanted to for so long- "Thank you".
