Linda Morrison, RN
Linda has taken care of me several times, so when she walked through the door, we both smiled, said hi, and I reached out for a hug. I knew that I would be well taken care of. She mentioned to me that she was training Sophia, and that Sophia would be the one taking care of me, but Ms. Linda would be there if necessary.
When I was catheterized at 5 a.m., everything was fine, but at 8 a.m. I discovered a wound on my right hip. I called, and Linda came into my room. Ms. Linda attempted to pull the skin down over the blister, but it was too dry. Therefore, Ms. Linda suggested that the wound should be dressed, but Linda wanted to verify if the wound doctor would do the same. The doctor came, and we spoke to him about the news. Linda acted very quickly. Around 2 pm, multiple blisters appeared in the same area. Linda dressed the wounds, but now it was on the left side.
I was crying hysterically, just feeling defeated. I grabbed Ms. Linda and just sobbed. I literally was screaming because my heart was broken, and internally, I was hurting.
Ms. Linda left the room. She returned with, if I recall, the surgeon. I had an issue with the bed I had to lie on because of the muscle flap. She made a telephone call, as she hadn’t given up, and she advocated to the charge nurse to call the company to get me a sand mattress. It was received within 2 to 3 hours. This was the quickest I’ve ever received this special mattress from any outside vendor.
Ms. Linda embodies everything that is written on the posters and boards and the hospital values. When I was weak, Ms. Linda carried me. Nursing is a skill, but caring is her profession. I was beyond downhearted, and she kept me encouraged. I was worried, and she listened.
Ms. Linda calmed my fears and gave me hope!

Additional note Kim Martin: During Lovey’s stay, I completed nurse leader rounds. Linda had given patient Lovey a worry doll because patient Lovey was so upset and crying due to be scared after having a setback. In the box, Linda included a note from the 5300 team, letting her know we are here for her and will take good care of her. I am paraphrasing and summarizing, but when I listened to the patient during nurse leader rounds, all I could think about was that Linda is an example of a Compassionate Servant Leader
