With her actions and her passion Lindi inspires all of us in the Radiology unit, every day by going above and beyond her call of duty.
A 16-year-old young woman was scheduled for MRI Brain follow up under General Anesthesia at West campus. The patient was developmentally delayed and functions at a mental age of a 3-year-old. Everything from a visit to the dental clinic or a doctor, the mere sight of a hospital frightens her, and makes her combative and violent to the point she won't even get out of the car. The previous two times she had to be held down by several caregivers, due to her large size, for a sedative injection in the car and was then brought inside on a stretcher to the hospital for an exam. During several conversations with the Radiology staff to plan the anesthetic for this very challenging patient, Lindi Stegeman volunteered and stepped forward not just for planning but also volunteered for being there herself to help this young woman. On the day of the exam, Lindi was there, working diligently, balancing patient safety, and putting the mom and family at ease while helping them understand various hospital safety concerns. Lindi reassured the family, sometimes more than once, until the exam was completed. The exam went smoothly without any hiccups. This is not the only time Lindi has stepped up. On another occasion we had a 44-year-old athlete with extreme claustrophobia scheduled for an MRI with sedation. Being a Children's hospital, most of the nursing staff was uncomfortable safely caring for this adult athlete. Lindi again with her knowledge, skills and competence stepped up and not only put this athlete at ease but also offered to care for them. With her actions and her passion Lindi inspires all of us in the Radiology unit, every day by going above and beyond her call of duty.
