Knowing, even if she wasn't assigned to my mother, that Lindsay was there gave us such comfort.
My mother had her kidney transplant. It was supposed to be the answer to our prayers. Unfortunately, she experienced an extended hospital stay (one month) due to a reaction to some medication. She was not herself, experiencing hallucinations, unable to get out of bed, and being hostile to others. Lindsay did not leave our side. While she had a floor full of patients, she still managed to sit with my mother for a few moments. She comforted me and my father daily. Listened to our concerns and listened to us cry.

After her discharge, my mother was readmitted two months later for dehydration and a bowel blockage, it was there we learned that she had Cancer too. She needed an ileostomy - this came as a total shock to our family. While waiting, my mother was unable to control her bowels in bed and had sores on her body. Lindsay still remained a constant for us. Helping her, helping my family understand and cope with what was going on.

Two months after discharge from the Ileostomy, we were back on 6E due to significant dehydration in my mother. She had low BP/unregisterable at some times. Knowing, even if she wasn't assigned to my mother, that Lindsay was there gave us such comfort. She would still stop by to make my mom laugh every chance she got. This last week, we were admitted again due to an infection. My mother has been there for a week and will continue to be there for a while, and of course, Lindsay is there too. Our constant. I feel like she loves my mother and my family as much as I do. She is never far if mom needs something. She knows her history, and knows just how to give her medication so that it doesn't hurt her. Knows just how to comfort her when she's crying and frustrated with being in the hospital.

There are a number of wonderful nurses on 6E, but Lindsay has become our family. She does it with ease, she does it without complaining. She is tender, kind, explains things when we don't understand is. Will sit in with us when the doctors come so that we aren't alone when we receive news (and if we're not there she will stay with my mom). MUSC needs more Lindsay’s in their rank. I don't know if we all would have made it through all these admissions and ups and downs with my mother's health without her by our side.
