A son of an elderly patient writes how happy he was with a recent ED experience. His mother was admitted with multiple medical issues—such as a DVT, two small pulmonary emboli, and unknowingly, she also had a heart arrhythmia. The son expressed that it was a tense situation, but the nurse stayed calm and focused on delivering exceptional care. This nurse put their anxiety with a very scary situation at ease. The son said this nurse was a good collaborator with the medical team and communicated well with him and his mother. While his mother was recovering, he remembered the little things this nurse did to make their experience amazing. He was full of gratitude and said that not all heroes wear capes….many wear scrubs!
