Lindsay is a nurse on our Peds Epi/Oncology Unit and she literally radiates happiness. Not only is she a bright light for our patients and families, but she is also a source of joy for all of our unit staff. However, I would like to speak to the depths of her compassion and the reason for this nomination. Lindsay was taking care of one of our adolescent/young adult patients who was unable to leave the hospital to celebrate Valentine's Day. The patient mentioned in passing that his girlfriend would be visiting the hospital the next day and that they were planning to have dinner together in his hospital room. Lindsay knew how special this delayed Valentine's Day celebration was to her patient, so after she worked her shift that day, she went shopping for a few supplies. The next day, she returned to work and transformed our playroom into a fancy dining room so that our patient and his friend could have dinner in a more suitable location than his hospital bed. It was a tremendously generous and heartfelt gesture and the patient was blown away. Lindsay always makes an effort to make her patients feel special and this is just one example of a time where she went above and beyond to make a genuine connection. We are so grateful to have Lindsay as part of our team and I know that this patient and many others feel the same way about her generous heart. I cannot think of a more deserving nurse for the DAISY Award than Lindsay.
