Most importantly, Lindsay listens to their concerns, gains their trust, sticks to her word, and helps to rectify situations and improve their stay.
Lindsay Weathers is truly the best leader I have had the pleasure to work with. She definitely exemplifies the Bay Care Values and those of the DAISY Foundation. Lindsay genuinely cares about her staff and shows it with things like working with our schedules so we can attend school or life events, by buying us pizza on a really hectic day using her own money, by putting together our own daily celebration for our team during Nurse’s Week, and by simple things like listening when you have a rough day and just need some advice or encouragement. She also has this positive “can-do attitude” that is contagious. There are so many things that I can say that she does for our team, the list is endless. I can honestly say that I have not worked with a manager who cares about her team the way that she does.
On a personal level, she has helped me to grow professionally by encouraging me to further my education, encouraged me to get my certification, and encouraged me to become a charge nurse and later an assistant nurse manager. I work as her ANM and have learned so much from her. She believes in me and encourages me to do the same. Her words of encouragement have helped me so much and have built confidence in myself that I never had before. She listens to my suggestions and those of the team, she takes the time to teach me management things and does it with patience, she shows flexibility and encourages growth within her staff so that we may expand our skills and knowledge.
Role Model: exemplifies the Bay Care values through and through in all interactions!
Builds trust: does not go back on her word. Encourages an open-door policy so that we feel comfortable coming to her with any issues or concerns. She challenges her staff with coming up with ways to improve processes within the unit and listens to suggestions.
Fosters professionalism: encourages our staff to do our best, makes sure we are up to date with the latest education, encourages pay for skills and joining professional councils, encourages nursing certifications.
Risk-taking: is not afraid of new challenges or new processes; finds the positives of improvements and makes others see why change is good. If she finds something or is made aware of something that needs improvement, she will take the steps to try to improve it.
Creativity: is always trying to come up with things to improve outcomes, processes, and team morale. Examples: Competition for who sends the most patients to the discharge lounge with a high-five for the winners, encouraging staff to pick up shifts by splitting the shifts between 2 people (the unit gets coverage and the staff does not feel overworked), doing our own Thank You day activity to show our staff appreciation.
Providing excellent patient care: I jokingly call her the “service recovery guru”. She has a way of speaking to people that is able to diffuse difficult satiations, deescalate angry patients and family members, and gains back their trust in our team. Also, no task is “beneath her” just because she is a manager when she rounds on the patients; she provides hands-on care such as toileting, ordering meals, or getting a drink for a patient or family member. Most importantly, she listens to their concerns, gains their trust, sticks to her word, and helps to rectify situations and improve their stay.
There are just too many great things to say about our manager Lindsay. It truly is an honor to work with her and to work for Bay Care under leaders that care about their team members.
