I was in a fatal car accident in April and arrived at the hospital via med flight with life-threatening injuries. I had not one person or face I knew before this wreck for my entire stay. My head nurse or "my" main nurse was Lindsay Webster.
I can't even begin to describe the emotions I went through with my extensive injuries. My incredible fears, the loss of a lifelong friend (the driver), not knowing if my son was alive or where he was every time I woke up. With the pain of my many broken bones and fractures, and not knowing for sure if I would ever walk again, Lindsay was there.
When all I could see was waves of red and blue, I could always hear her voice, and then I knew I wasn't alone in a sea of people, and I was going to be alright. She listened to me, held my hand when I just needed to cry, she managed my pain and the many problems along.
Lindsay kept me in check when I would start to get angry and assured me that I was getting better, and all of this would be over sooner than I thought. She would constantly re-order meals for me to ensure I was getting the protein I needed. Lindsay kept in excellent contact with my mother 10-12 hours away who was with my youngest son, whom I cried over missing every day.
Honestly, she made me feel almost like I was the only patient she had. When I was wheeled out of my room and was able to see the magnitude of the floor I was on, the Trauma unit, well that just says to me how excellent she was.
We are not promised tomorrow, so hug now, live and love, appreciate the little things, slow down, and nominate your nurse for any recognition and all they deserve. I love you Lindsay; I'm very grateful for your care and the care of the entire unit that helped save my life.
