Last week, Lindsey came to the unit to complete some education requirements. She was dressed up in street clothes. While she was here, two emergency patients came in at the same time. When Lindsey was asked to assist, she immediately did so without hesitation. Lindsey did not question the pay nor the very expensive clothes she was wearing. She went into the dirtiest patient's room and began assisting with the most unclean of tasks. This was a very critically ill patient who required life-sustaining care. Staff was spread very thin due to two simultaneous emergencies. This patient survived to make it to the next level due to the quick selfless actions by Lindsey. She wound up canceling plans she had to stay by this patient's bedside until she ensured they were stabilized and adequate care was available. Great job by Lindsey. This is what nursing is all about.
