July 2026 Honoree
Lindsey Dickman, RN
Our son was in the PICU with delirium post severe TBI with epidural hematoma and skull fractures. He was not easy. The night he was extubated, he was agitated, combative, at risk of harm to self and others, and, on top of it all, kept urinating in the bed. At one point, we lost all IV access with his thrashing around. He needed meds, restraints, new lines, multiple bed sheet changes, and immense patience over and over again throughout the night. He needed someone with a brain and heart of gold and an understanding that his behavior is a consequence of his injuries and not purposeful.
The PICU staff were so patient. He even spit on one of the nurses at some point in the night and tried to headbutt them. He's a gentle-mannered kid, and I am so sorry for the aggression his delirium caused.
Lindsey handled the night like our angel. She reminded the team that even though my son is 6 feet tall at age 14, he's just a kid and sick. She bladder scanned and straight cathed him, when possible, to reduce agitation. She changed the sheets time after time, she reassured us, she kept showing up to care for him undaunted with the most positive attitude.
It was a very long night. Lindsey and the PICU team never faltered. Lindsey is incredibly smart, hardworking, and genuinely cares. While we are grateful to the entire PICU team. Lindsey personifies the values The DAISY Foundation represents.
