Mr. C made a choice to go into hospice care today. With a lot of family support, things were set up for him to leave this afternoon. He made a comment that the one thing he would like to do before he dies was to “ride in a limo.” Lindsey, his nurse, came to the desk in tears telling the rest of the AICU staff this. Lindsey quickly gathered up money and called a limousine company and set it up to arrive shortly. The patient has Downs Syndrome and was very excited about his ride home. Lindsey’s good compassionate heart again showed above and beyond what is expected of a bedside nurse. Lindsey’s tears for the patient and her joy in making him happy were overwhelmingly companionate! The patient passed at home just a few days later.
