Lindsey is an unbelievable, caring, kind, and knowledgeable nurse.
I first met her when my son was transferred to ICU - 3rd Floor.
I was very upset and concerned for my son's life as he was extremely critical. Lindsey demonstrated a skill set, that gave me the confidence she really knew her job and let me know she would take the best care possible to keep him stable.
She was so respectful of me, my knowledge of my son as I have been a caregiver for 20 years/24 hours a day. I am very knowledgeable with his care, she understood this and had the utmost respect for my input and knowledge of my son.
Lindsey would take whatever time needed to share her knowledge with me about the situations my son was going through. She was personable, loving, got lots of hugs from her, she would take time from her other patients to come to our room, to give me a hug, and to see how my son was doing.
I was extremely exhausted and had a lot of anxiety about his care.
When Lindsey was his nurse, I knew he was in good care and I could rest, sometimes for as long as 8 hours sleep. She would take the time when leaving to say "Have a good day."

Throughout my time working with Donor Alliance as a Family Support Coordinator, I have collaborated with many nurses, doctors, and varied other disciplines. I have worked closely with families going through the very difficult time of losing a loved one and worked with many nurses who are caring for these patients. Donation can bring peace, hope and comfort in a time of impossible pain. So, when you meet a nurse who is able to act as a caretaker for their patient, support for the family, and a teammate for the Donor Alliance staff in such a dedicated and graceful way, it is extremely impactful. What I have described to you is the character of Lindsey Ervin.
Every donation case is unique because every family is unique and requires the entire team to adapt. By the time I became involved, Lindsey had already built a strong relationship with her patient's family, knowing she was their advocate and was committed to her role as a nurse. This patient was a Registered Donor and after being declared brain dead, Lindsey assisted with Donor Alliance involvement and acted as a support system for the patient's husband as he came to understand and accept this diagnosis and the pathway to donation. I believe her positive energy, compassionate demeanor, and complete competence put this family at ease throughout the process.
On the day that this patient was to be transported for organ recovery, the hospital organized an honor walk which the family thought was beautiful. Lindsey walked alongside them and shared in their sorrow. The family was truly in awe of her and expressed their overwhelming appreciation. Lindsey was instrumental in helping the patient's husband through this difficult time and that family will forever be grateful to her. I know that myself and our staff feel the same way. Thank you, Lindsey, for your support of donation and your exceptional skill as a nurse.
