August 2026 Honoree
Lindsey Houser, RN
It will be 50 years since I graduated from nursing school and 5 yrs since I retired from IRMC. Recently, I came in to have a CTA scan. Lindsey was the nurse who took care of me. I want to recognize her for her compassion, kindness, patience, and professionalism.
---
Often, when people know you are a nurse, they skip over the explanation and get to the task at hand, wrongfully assuming you know what is happening. Not Lindsey. I was very apprehensive about my test and tried to hide how I was feeling. Lindsey sensed this and explained everything step by step. She offered reassurance by answering all my questions. This was very comforting to me.
---
She was very professional and confident, but not cocky. It is difficult to put into words how comforting this was. She continued to explain everything during the scan. She knew I was concerned about the medications, but her explanations made me feel that she could handle any problems that might arise. Her actions decreased my anxiety and facilitated a very pleasant experience. It is nice to know such talent and compassion still exist.
