The patient trusted her so much that he essentially postponed his passing because he knew she would be the one to take care of him in his last moments.
Lindsey Hulsey had been caring for the same patient for 2 weeks when she worked. While caring for him, she spoke with him about his life, and his hobbies, and he told her many stories. She formed a strong connection with him. Unfortunately, he was given a very poor prognosis and had made the decision to be comfortable instead of suffering. He had been offered comfort care over the weekend but asked to wait until she returned on Monday so she could care for him. The patient trusted her so much that he essentially postponed his passing because he knew she would be the one to take care of him in his last moments. He even asked that she bring a chair into his room to join the family at his bedside. She took it upon herself to never leave his side, comforting him with a smile, administering medications, weaning his oxygen, and providing emotional support to the family. He passed away within a few hours with absolute comfort due to her attention and care. She was so gracious, stating that it was all because the other team members had assumed the care of her other patients so she could focus on him. Great job, Lindsey...and the team that helped her.
