Due to her taking the time to build a relationship with this patient, she agreed to stay and go to the ICU.
Lindsey was seeing a patient for Afib RVR. The decision was made to transfer the patient to the ICU; however, the patient was adamant that she felt fine and was going to leave AMA despite the risks that were explained to her.
Lindsey sat on the end of the bed and had a meaningful conversation about why she really wanted to leave. During the conversation, the patient opened up about some personal struggles she was having. Due to her taking the time to build a relationship with this patient, she agreed to stay and go to the ICU.
The next day, the patient went into a lethal rhythm and coded. Because she was in the ICU under close monitoring, team members were able to intervene quickly and achieve ROSC. Minutes after this event, the patient was awake and talking.
