Our unit was incredibly busy and overwhelmed, and we were reaching out for any help we could get. Lindsey, a float pool L&D nurse, advocated to be sent to our hospital from another location at 4:00 am because she knew how much we needed extra hands. She arrived by 4:30 am, ready to jump in without hesitation.

Despite the early hour and challenging circumstances, I had to give her a very difficult assignment, a newly admitted 16-week fetal demise with an imminent delivery. Lindsey took the assignment with zero complaints and handled it with extraordinary compassion and professionalism. She supported the patient and her partner through one of the most heartbreaking experiences a family can face.

What stood out even more was that Lindsey went above and beyond. She compiled and began all of the bereavement paperwork herself, something many regular staff defer to the charge nurse. It was clear she wasn’t just here to work a shift; she came to truly care for our patients and support our team. This moment is just one example of the kind of nurse Lindsey is. She always brings a positive attitude, helps without being asked, and uplifts the people around her.

Her coworkers love working with her, and our unit is better when she’s here. Lindsey is exactly the kind of nurse the DAISY Award was created for. Her impact didn't stop with the patient. By stepping up when we were short-staffed and emotionally drained, Lindsey eased the burden on the rest of the team. That morning, her presence helped prevent burnout among core staff. She enabled us to safely manage a surge in patient volume without compromising safety and the quality of care.

Lindsey is the kind of nurse who reminds us all why we're here. She uplifts her coworkers with her positive attitude, jumps in wherever needed, and leads by example. Her ability to quietly go above and beyond creates a ripple effect: her patients feel seen and cared for, her team feels supported, and the unit runs more smoothly because of her. This is just one day-one story, but this is who Lindsey is every time she shows up.
