Thanks to her vigilance and quick thinking, the individual, who had locked himself in a room, was ultimately de-escalated and assisted by police and fire without injury to himself or anyone else.
I'm honored to nominate one of our nurses for the DAISY Award for her extraordinary courage, compassion, and commitment to safety. Even while on her break, she noticed a situation that demanded immediate action: a person nearby was holding a knife. Without hesitation, she escalated the concern promptly, alerting the appropriate teams and remaining calm and composed under pressure. What stood out most was her ability to not only prioritize safety but also to provide comfort and reassurance to another nearby patient, helping to maintain a sense of calm in a tense situation. When security arrived, she clearly communicated the direction the individual had run, ensuring a swift and informed response. Thanks to her vigilance and quick thinking, the individual, who had locked himself in a room, was ultimately de-escalated and assisted by police and fire without injury to himself or anyone else. Lindsey's actions reflect an exceptional commitment to our values, particularly speaking up for safety and compassionate care. She demonstrated bravery, emotional intelligence, and leadership in a critical moment. I am so proud to be her Manager, and deeply grateful to have someone like her on our team. Linday Vargas truly exemplifies what it means to be a DAISY Nurse!

Lindsey, it is because of this and much more that you are so deserving of this recognition. Thank you for all you do and continue to do for the patients at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, putting patients first and people always!
