She went above and beyond to assist and care for this patient, helping to save his life.
Working in a perioperative setting, we encounter emergent situations that require swift intervention and critical thinking. We had an emergent situation where a patient declined in the preoperative area, became unresponsive, and began profusely bleeding from his mouth. Lindsey took charge of directing staff and providers to take the patient directly to the operating room. She stayed with the patient throughout the procedure, assisting anesthesia with blood administration, initiating drops to stabilize the patient, and placing additional IV access to infuse volume expanders and IV fluids. The procedure was able to stop the bleeding and repair the tear, saving the patient's life. She was also preparing for post-procedure by transferring the patient to a higher level of care. She managed care while the patient was on a ventilator with multiple cardia and sedation medications. Lindsey performed exceptional patient care in an emergent situation using critical thinking and preparing ahead for any further complications. She went above and beyond to assist and care for this patient, helping to save his life. With Lindsey's experience and background in ICU and ER, she could lead other nursing staff and providers in a smooth transition through the phases of care in the perioperative setting in a critical event while maintaining the best patient care possible. Later, this resulted in the patient's full recovery and discharge home.
