When you talk to her, you know that every sentiment in her conversation is genuine and heartfelt. Some people just exude empathy, and she is one of those people.
If my family or I are ever admitted to the hospital, Lindsey T'Felt is the nurse I want. Lindsey has been working in the Pediatric CVICU for several years. She has the experience and knowledge to take care of any critically ill child but that is not what makes her a DAISY Nurse. When you talk to her, you know that every sentiment in her conversation is genuine and heartfelt. Some people just exude empathy, and she is one of those people. In my years working with her, I have several examples of her outstanding ability to comfort sick children and families on our unit but there are a few that stand out.

Once, she and I were exchanging report on a critically ill teenager. The patient had been sleeping but woke suddenly, clearly uncomfortable but unable to communicate due to the breathing tube they had in place. The patient's heart rate and blood pressure spiked; they began grabbing at the side rails of their bed and looking around for help. Lindsey quickly assessed the situation, came to the patient's side, explained (probably for the third or fourth time that morning) what was happening, gently rubbed the patient's shoulder, and sat by their side while we finished report. I watched the patient’s heart rate and blood pressure slowly come down to normal levels while the patient listened intently to her. This is how Lindsey approaches many of the situations we encounter here, with empathy and a quiet calmness that influences those around her.

This morning I came in early for my shift, and I saw Lindsey sitting down next to a concerned mother in her patient's room. I sat outside and listened for a moment while Lindsey explained the child's need to go back for surgery, and her understanding of the mother's concerns, and answered several questions with calm, thoughtful answers. I know for a fact that Lindsey was busy that night, she was in charge with a full patient assignment, but that mother would have never known that Lindsey had a million other things to do. Lindsey was patient, calm, genuine, and kind as she always is.

Lindsey is the nurse who will sit with you just because you need some company in a trying time. She brings her patience and calm with her wherever she goes and passes it on to her patients and team members.
