My 20-year-old son had a car wreck that left him in a coma for more than a month. During the time that he was asleep, his health was critical. He had an ICP bolt in his brain, an EVD for collecting spinal fluid, he had two poles of IV medication, and was on a ventilator. Lindsey Thompson was always an amazing nurse. She came in prepared each time she gave medicine and turned him every two hours on the dot. She kept us informed of everything going on, from what medication she was administering to what an alarm on the monitor meant. She knew her stuff! My son began to have dips in his respiration. She called for respiratory therapy. They tried to get him back to normal but were unable to. She quickly asked if she needed to get the doctor and did calmly. He was desaturating. It was an emergency situation. She had exactly what he needed as soon as the doctor came in. She knew the answer to every question he asked. The staff quickly brought a different vent into the room, and Lindsey put her hand on my back and explained why. She stood at the bedside and assisted. Then, she walked up to me and told me what was happening. I was terrified. He was still not coming back up. They called for a chest x-ray. I began to cry and asked her what was happening. Again, Lindsey kept calm, put her hand on my back, explained everything, and said it would be ok. The doctor was able to get him stable. Not once did Lindsey panic or look confused. She was confident, knowledgeable, and caring. I will never forget how she made me feel at that moment and how much respect I have for her after. She is an amazing nurse! I will always appreciate her.

Thank you, Lindsey, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
