As for many parents, having their child undergo major surgery or seeing them in pain brings a sense of helplessness, hurt, guilt and sadness. No parent wants to see their child suffer in any way and would trade places if they could. To help curb these feelings, emotions, and anxieties for both children and parents- certain things must happen, and thankfully for us, they did. Our daughter is 13, and she recently underwent the Nuss Procedure. The surgery was a success, but she still had to cope and adapt to pain, new limitations, and the physical and mental trauma that came along with it. Everyone and everything about CHKD was outstanding and was a blessing. One particular nurse, Lindsey, created an instant bond with my daughter. She was like a nurse-mother-sister-friend all wrapped up in one! She was so caring, professional, and loving, that my daughter actually cried when her shift ended (others were awesome too, but Nurse Lindsey went above and beyond). As parents, it was such a relief to see our daughter trust, care, and respect a medical personnel who had offered the same to her. Nurse Lindsey has made this surgery experience more comforting, positive, and informative. I have no doubt she is and will be successful in her medical career, and in life in general. As our country pushes through a lot of negativity these days, I know we are in a better place and thrive with Nurse Lindsey and the people that she affects, as well as other caring, loving professionals like her!
