Her compassion for staff, patients, patients’ families, and physicians has promoted an ease of seeking guidance.
Linh translates Memorial Hermann’s mission and values of community, compassion, credibility and courage relentlessly on a daily basis. The following are examples of the many ways she exceeds the expectations of a DAISY Nurse Leader:
Community-Linh has unified all the departments. Our Preadmit, Preop, Endo, and PACU departments function together as one. She has coordinated and facilitated cross-training amongst the departments to ensure a smooth transition for patients and their family members.
Compassion-Linh treats everyone like family. Her compassion for staff, patients, patients’ families, and physicians has promoted an ease of seeking guidance. Linh leads with an open-door policy. She always takes time to listen to concerns, ideas, and/or is simply available for someone to talk to. On some weekends, the call team has multiple cases and cannot make it to the cafeteria on time. Linh will go above and beyond by ordering food for the team. She is truly available 24 hours a day without hesitation.
Courage-Since July, Linh has been the interim Director, Perioperative manager and acting or Clinical Coordinator. In spite of all the sudden changes, Linh does not recoil from a challenge but embraces any challenge head-on.
Credibility-During this time of transition in leadership, our hospital experienced a sudden increase of patients with COVID. To keep up with the influx of inpatients, half of our perioperative department was temporarily shifted to various understaffed departments. Linh provided exceptional support by quickly discerning her peer’s individual needs and moving efficiently to provide key information, recommendations, and/or direction. During this tremulous time, Linh spent many hours meticulously creating a schedule that would ensure every employee had an opportunity to work their scheduled hours. Daily, Linh would send out emails, phone calls, and texts updating staff members, patients, and physicians of any changes. In addition, Linh rounded each department daily to encourage our employees to maintain positive morale during these times of transition and rapid changes.
In conclusion, we have been distinguished for 2 years on surgical site infection prevention and have distinguished patient satisfaction scores. In addition, our perioperative steam was able to obtain tier 1 level in our operating rooms. Our perioperative department was able to accomplish such recognition due to the quality care and leadership provided by Linh. Her commitment to our perioperative department has not gone unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. She is an advocate for our patients and for our staff. She is never afraid to speak up when she sees a situation in which staff or patients need help. As a department, we are proud to say work in Perioperative, but as employees, we are honored to work for Linh Tang, BSN, RN, Perioperative manager. Therefore, it is without reservation that we recommend Linh Tang for the 2022 DAISY Nurse Leader Award. We thank you for giving us the opportunity to honor her.
