The level of assistance needed by the patient to get to the bathroom didn't stop Lynn from retraining the patient's bladder.
During direct report rounding, Lynn's colleague has expressed her appreciation and recognized Lynn for her Rehab expertise and mentorship. Lynn was described as a great mentor who has a wealth of strong Rehab knowledge and skills. Lynn embodies the competency of an advanced Rehab nurse. When there is no ANM on duty and the staff is not sure of a certain process, Lynn is the "go-to" person on NOC shift. Lynn makes every effort to guide the staff through the right process and best practice. Lynn is a great Rehab nurse and an inspiring mentor that is worthy of emulation.
As one of my direct reports, I have seen Lynn's tenacity in helping a stroke patient retrain her bladder. Lynn had taken care of a stroke patient who was often incontinent of the bladder. The patient required two-person assistance to go to the bathroom, and often would ask for a bedpan or ended up incontinent of the bladder as the patient didn't want to be a burden to the nurses. Lynn had discouraged her from using the bedpan, set a schedule of taking her to the BR so she could fully empty her bladder. The level of assistance needed by the patient to get to the bathroom didn't stop Lynn from retraining the patient's bladder. As the patient's stay in KFRC progresses, she eventually became continent of the bladder. On the day of her discharge, I asked the patient if there's anyone she would like to recognize from the staff, the patient mentioned Lynn's name and stated, "Lynn made it possible for me to regain my bladder function, something that I didn't think would happen soon before going home."
