My first time meeting Linwen as a patient was during my first colonoscopy. I was scared and nervous about the procedure and ultimately the results. Linwen immediately recognized my anxiety and fear and verbally walked me through the procedure, answering any questions I had. She was so compassionate and sweet. She gave me a warm blanket, and when the anesthesia was administered, she gently massaged my IV spot to help ease the burn of the medications. I felt well cared for and very safe with Linwen.

Then, just the other day, I had to go in for a repeat colonoscopy. I was no longer anxious about the procedure, but anxious about the results. I went through Pre-Op, and all my nurses were absolutely amazing. As I was wheeled into the procedure room, there was Linwen! My heart was so very happy seeing her, as all the memories flooded back of my first time with her, helping me through my anxiety. She was just as amazing the second time, from making me laugh with silly banter to the gentle massaging of my IV site and patting my shoulder, letting me know I was going to be ok.

Not only have I witnessed Linwen’s compassionate nature as a patient, but I have had the pleasure of occasionally working alongside her at the hospital when she was called in for a procedure that one of our ICU patients required. She is always so pleasant and joyful to be around. She radiates confidence and kindness wherever she goes. I love hearing her voice and seeing her smile. I have never seen her have a bad day or a foul mood, even though I am sure she is human like the rest of us; she just doesn’t carry it with her. For all these reasons, I believe Linwen should be recognized as an outstanding nurse – someone who is passionate about her job and compassionate towards her patients. She is a model to be admired, consistently going above and beyond the necessary duties of her position.
