Once the patient and staff were physically safe, Lisa continued to talk the patient down and had him focus on her.
Our department had experienced a very busy morning and provided excellent care to a critically ill patient in a scary situation. As the day progressed we were alerted to a Code Strong in the Department. While responding to the Code, I was so impressed with Lisa’s care of the behavioral health patient for which the Code Strong was called. Even though the patient had been physically attacking Pulaski Police personnel and attempting to attack our staff, Lisa kept her cool with the patient.
Once the patient and staff were physically safe, Lisa continued to talk the patient down and had him focus on her. There was so much commotion in the area anyone would have been anxious in the moment, let alone being a mental health patient in the middle of a crisis. Once the patient was secured on the bed, Lisa kept reminding him to focus on her, that he was at the hospital, and that most of all he was safe. With Lisa’s help we were able to get the patient to a room and give him medication which helped him control the mental crisis he was experiencing.
Lisa’s ability to stay calm in the situation and focus on what was best for her patient, even when he was so far into his crisis that it had become an unsafe situation, was amazing.
Note: This is Lisa's 2nd DAISY Award!
