Lisa has been our primary contact at the clinic since my son was diagnosed almost 4 years ago. She does much more than providing medical support. She has consistently shown a genuine interest not only in my son's well being but that of our entire family. Our situation can at times be complex and even frustrating to deal with. I personally struggle with trusting people and so Lisa has become my 'safe' person at the clinic. She works patiently with me when my depression and anxiety make it difficult for everyone around me. We were homeless for several months a couple years ago and she worked with me to get his pump and CGM supplies delivered to the clinic each month because we didn't have a place to have them delivered. She helped us work with the shelter staff to make accommodations because we weren't supposed to have food, needles or medication in our room. She even helped connect me to other resources even though that was far beyond the scope of her job. There were issues that are difficult to describe here but which I was able to work through with her help. She always gets back to me quickly - sometimes even when she is not on duty (even if it's just to tell me that she's going to have someone else respond). On several occasions she has helped me dig through red tape associated with various prescriptions and supply orders. When we weren't able to get supplies due to a bureaucratic SNAFU a couple of years ago - she worked directly with the regional Medtronic rep to make sure that my son had what he needed until things were fixed and made sure my son had the supplies he needed until the problem was fixed. On the day we moved out of the shelter I sent her a message that included the following -"I don't know what I would have done without you. It may seem small or mundane to you but to me you were my anchor in the storm. I couldn't have stayed focused on taking adequate care of him without your guidance. I was thinking the other day about how many problems he had that I felt were related to what was going in in our lives [being homeless]. There's no way we could have worked through them if I hadn't trusted you enough to be open with you about everything. Thanks again Lisa... for everything."
