A Veteran arrived at check-in for PCP appointment. Lisa checked the Vet in. Lisa is always very kind and helpful to all our Vets. She noticed that the Vet was feeling 'down'. Upon further inquiry, Lisa learned that the Vet's wife had recently 'left him' and he wasn't sure if he would 'even have a home anymore'. The vet was also having suicidal thoughts. Lisa informed the PCP and RN but took it upon herself to contact urgent care mental health MD. The Vet agreed to speak with MH as he was in a 'dark place.' Lisa was able to make arrangements for the Vet to be seen in the MH right away.
We later learned that the Vet did actually have a plan to end his life. The Vet was admitted to 3C. Lisa has clearly demonstrated every aspect of the ICARE principles. Without Lisa's wonderful communication skills and compassion for our Veterans, this Vet may have not been with us today.
On top of this occasion, Lisa's focus every day is the best care for our Veterans! She always enhances that care with her smile. This clinic is very fortunate to have Lisa as such a huge advocate for our Veterans!
