The patient needed quite a bit of assistance from the blood loss. She hung fluids, drew labs, and stayed with the patient even though she was there many hours past her scheduled shift.
She is a wonderful leader and also a great bedside nurse. She does not leave for the day if her nurses are in need of direct patient care.

I had an experience with Lisa recently. There were two call bells going off and someone else in labor. It may seem simple but on a labor and delivery it takes a few nurses to bring a life into this world. Lisa answered a call bell. A postpartum mom wanted to get out of bed and use the bathroom and wash up. She agreed to help that mom. The patient became weak, diaphoretic and ended up losing consciousness once in the bathroom. She stayed with the patient and called for the code team as she was the only one available in the department. The patient needed quite a bit of assistance from the blood loss. She hung fluids, drew labs, and stayed with the patient even though she was there many hours past her scheduled shift.

About 5 hours prior, Lisa was working in her office and heard the nurse for that same patient call for another set of hands. The patient had a precipitous delivery and the doctor had not made it to help deliver. The patient had a significant amount of pain while receiving her repairs from delivery. Lisa was at the head of the bed comforting the patient and giving cold clothes. She was there to reassure the patient and husband while the nurses took care of the newborn. Lisa was there and ready to work. Lisa made the family feel at home.

She has comforted many patients, and I'm sure this is not the last.
