Lisa Cross worked 10-27-2011 on the night shift in the NICU. She had a sick little baby to take care of. She was worried about the baby and was an advocate for the baby to be transferred to the CICU. The baby had an enlarged heart and was having many heart rhythm disturbances. She also was advocating for a medication to be started to help with the arrhythmias.
The baby was transferred to the CICU, and Lisa also followed the patient to the CICU and cared for the baby the rest of her shift due to staffing needs in the CICU. Lisa reported to me that she was worried coming to the CICU to care for the baby, but she did an outstanding job in caring for this child. All Lisa had reported to me was that the CICU CN and other nurses were a big help to her. She did not see that she played an important, critical role in helping this child receive the care that this patient needed. Lisa is an outstanding nurse and was a beautiful team player. I am happy she was caring for the baby, and that she stayed with the patient in the CICU. Lisa’s team work and communication made a difference, a real difference!
