I wanted to send an email to praise the work of your ER staff. First off my 91-year-old grandmother was rushed to your ER after being found unconscious at her assisted living facility. My mom was out of town and my father was at work so my mom called and asked me to go to the ER and be with grandma. Upon my arrival I was so impressed with your team of nurses and physicians, I sat down in my grandma's room with my 2-year-old on my lap and the ER physician immediately came over and sat down in the chair next to me and began explaining what was going on. It was really nice to have her seated next to me while telling me that my grandmother had an "unsurvivable brain bleed."
Next is when I met Lisa from the stroke team. She was so wonderful! She continued to sit next to me, explain everything that was going on, and just be a support person for me until my father arrived. Being a nurse myself it was so nice to have someone explain everything to me and even ask me if things they were doing were okay. After my dad arrived and we decided to just make grandma comfortable until she passed away, Lisa continued to stay by our side and advocate for us to get a room up in the ICU where things were quiet and we could have time with grandma.
Lisa asked my dad what my grandma was like, what her personality was like, and other things along those lines. I just can't quite put into words how she made me feel but it was so nice to have someone like her in the room with us that evening. We were transferred up to the Neuro ICU where everyone was also wonderful but the next day Lisa came back to see my grandma and my family. My mom had made it back into town and was also very impressed with how wonderful Lisa was. Grandma was transferred to the hospice house and she passed away.
I know how important patient compliments can be for nurses and I wanted to be sure that I was able to reach out and recognize Lisa and the ER physician. Please tell her we are so thankful for her wonderful care she provided to my family and my grandmother. It really made me think about my own nursing care that I provide to patients every time I go to work and I hope that I can touch people the way that Lisa did for my family. Thank you so much!
