A patient had been on our unit for 48 days. The patient had spoken to Lisa several times about how much she missed her dog. Staff started noticing a change in the patient and that she was becoming depressed. Lisa offered to take her downstairs to see her dog. The patient refused and stated that it would be too hard to see the dog and then have to leave her again. After working her shift, Lisa called the patient's roommate and asked them to bring the dog to the hospital. Lisa met them downstairs and took some pictures of the dog. She had the pictures printed and framed and brought them to the patient the next day. The patient cried and stated that "no one has ever done anything this nice for me before".
