Lisa is my mom’s nurse in the ICU. She has gone above and beyond the expectation of care one should expect to receive. My mom has COPD and is possibly in her final stage of life. She had been on a vent but had shown progress to be placed on a bi-pap machine. After a day, my mom relapsed. She began to struggle to breathe and was anxious. Lisa sat with my mom, holding her hand, and held the mask on her face, because it kept slipping, to help calm my mom down. She did this for an hour. She called me to communicate that she was going to be placed on the vent again.

Once I arrived, the doctor shared that we needed to discuss our options. I was not expecting this. I took it pretty hard. Lisa came to speak with me and comfort me. She explained to me the details of the current situation and helped me understand. Her bedside manner, care, compassion, professionalism, and relatability were exactly what was needed at the moment. While she is busy with many patients, she took the time to provide the necessary care. Lisa clearly takes pride in how she cares for others. She is a true definition of a hero
