Lisa had a presence within her; a real gift for caring.
On a Saturday in September, we received a phone call from the daughter of a very close friend of ours for over fifty years. Our friend had been admitted to MercyOne Hospital quite unexpectedly the day before. Her daughter lives near Des Moines and had received a phone call from MercyOne Hospital informing her that her mother was dying. Understanding that she was better than three hours away and quite possibly wouldn't be able to make it back to Dubuque in time, she asked us to rush to MercyOne so that, in the event, she wouldn't be able to make it there in time, someone would be with her mother at her time of passing. We were shocked by the news and rushed to the hospital.

Upon arrival, and not knowing exactly where to go, the receptionist at the check-in desk was the first person we encountered. She was so very helpful and understanding of the situation and her immediate help was very much appreciated. When we arrived in the cardiovascular unit we were met by Lisa Frasher, our friend's nurse, who already was aware of our coming. She was so very calming in that she let us know that our friend had passed away quietly about forty-five minutes before we got there. She said that our friend had started the day with a good morning; bath, breakfast, and a short walk but a short time later she was alerted by our friend's monitor of an immediate concern. Lisa was with our friend, along with a chaplain, when she passed away. We can't begin to imagine how difficult it must be to break news like this to family and friends but Lisa had a presence within her; a real gift for caring.

As we were waiting for our friend's daughter to arrive, Lisa would continually check with us to see how we were doing. She arranged for the "Pease Tray" and gave us comfort. We knew that her shift had ended but she chose to stay until our friend's daughter and family arrived so that she could also extend comfort to them as well.

We just wanted you to know how very caring Lisa is, someone who went above and beyond that day, as we are certain, she does each and every day she is at MercyOne. God Bless her.
