Lisa is a charge nurse on ICU. She had built a relationship with a particular patient’s family. It was determined that a family meeting was needed due to the patient’s declining status. This determination was made on a day that Lisa was not present. The family requested not to have the meeting without the support of Lisa. Lisa agreed and happily came in on her day off to support the family and be present for the family meeting. The family was very appreciative of Lisa’s support, compassion, and genuine concern; not only for the patient but for the family as well.
