Lisa G. exemplifies attributes deserving of a Daisy Award. She went beyond merely caring for our daughter during her 3+ weeks in the NICU. She demonstrated compassion and helped lift our spirits on days when our daughter had setbacks and we struggled to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Lisa was our daughter’s admitting nurse; our daughter was transferred to St. Joe’s via ambulance. The next day she called the NICU to check on both our daughter and on us (on her day off), as she had seen how distraught we were the night before. Lisa was also our daughter’s primary night nurse, which pleased us, given her outstanding care and compassion for our entire family.
Lisa always spoke to us in terms of when our daughter would go home instead of if our daughter would go home!! She also served as our teacher and helped prepare us for life at home caring for our daughter. This wonderful woman demonstrates that nursing in the NICU is more than just a job to her and that she is vested in the children and families that spend time at St. Joe’s. Thus, my family and I believe that nominating her for DAISY Award recognition is the least we can do to express our gratitude for all she did for our family during our daughter’s medical adventures in the NICU.
