There are some people who chose Nursing to help others. I believe Lisa was called to become a nurse. There are daily examples that stand out to me. Lisa treats each of her patients as if he or she is her own family member. She has a special touch. When she leaves the room, the patient looks comfortable and at ease. Lisa not only performs an excellent job with the patient and family but also comforts the nursing staff.
I believe this is her calling because she never allows her personal life to impact the excellent care she delivers to her patients. Lisa maintains a positive attitude and is motivated to impact patients and co-workers regardless of how she is feeling. She is a patient and nurse advocate.
UTMC is blessed to have such a guardian angel take care of patients and staff members. One example is when a patient had an anniversary while being treated in our unit, Lisa went to the gift shop and purchased a card and gift for the patient to give to his wife to celebrate their anniversary.

When I think of the nurse whom we should all aspire to be, I think of Lisa. If there is anyone in our hospital who deserves recognition for taking exceptional care of the patients and the team alike, it would be her. She works as a fill-in Team Leader and consistently advocates for patients and the team.
Mentoring, coaching, and working as a preceptor, she helps others develop the necessary competencies that are required to work in the unit. Unfortunately, the things we value most in her are not things that can be passed on to others. She embodies dedication and compassion and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with her for the past ten years.
