My family and I entered Fairview Southdale Day Surgery for one of our most devastating days to date. I had lost my baby to a miscarriage. My heart was racing, and my eyes were filled with tears from the moment I walked into the hospital. I was not new to this feeling which made the situation all the more emotional for my husband and I. Lisa Larson greeted me as the pre-op nurse who would get me ready for surgery. I'm sure she could tell I was nervous not only for the surgery itself, but also for the circumstances surrounding it. From the second she started speaking to me, I felt calmer. She let me feel my emotions and never once made me feel uncared for. I needed a "mom" that morning, and she stepped in. Someone to hold my hand and tell me it was going to be okay, and that's exactly what Lisa did. Her kind, caring, genuine compassion left me with a sense of peace that morning, and that was all I could have asked for under such terrible circumstances. Any patient is lucky to have Lisa by their side. Thank you, Lisa! Your empathy and kindness will never be forgotten in our family.
