Throughout my hospital stay Lisa, by far, was the best nurse I had and I would go on to say one of the best nurses I have come across. A combination of her medical expertise and commitment to doing what is right/in my best interest plus her kindness and attentiveness, she left a lasting impression on me.
During the morning shift change, Lisa introduced herself and got up to speed on my status. She immediately found it odd that my insulin pump was shut off (per on-call doctor's orders) and began discussing with my doctor. Shortly after, she got orders to re-attach the pump and my blood sugars quickly returned to normal. This brought much relief to me since my sugars were running high (not good for the baby) and I questioned the original orders but had no success with the prior nurse to keep my pump attached. I shortly learned that Lisa's son is also insulin dependent and on a pump so she had a lot of knowledge about the pump and needs of a diabetic such as myself.
Often times I have to explain and convince the nurses what I need but this was not the case with Lisa, a huge relief while going thru labor. Later in the day my pump alerted to a low battery, Lisa quickly found a battery for me and always responded quickly to anything I needed (medical or comfort related). After a long day of labor I finally began pushing at 6pm. Lisa was a great coach and huge help during this difficult time. She warned me that shift change was coming up but she was going to try and stay late as the baby nurse if I did not deliver by the time the shift change took place. I delivered at 8pm and Lisa did in fact stay late, working as the baby nurse when I finally delivered. It was such a relief and I was very glad to have her there after a long day together.
Last but certainly not least, Lisa was a true professional in dealing with the antsy grandparent's. Three of them being RN's they were a handful and she gracefully managed them. She was a great gatekeeper, ensuring my wishes were met and I am very thankful for that. You can tell Lisa genuinely loves her job, in doing so she made my experience as nice and comfortable as possible while always having my health in her best interest so I did not have to worry. Anyone would be lucky to have Lisa as their nurse!
