Lisa immediately became a trusted confidant for our parents and ourselves. Lisa allowed me to focus on being a daughter and not a nurse/caregiver.
I recently retired as a practicing RN (BSN, MSN) for 45 years. I am sharing this because I know what compassionate care looks like and sounds like. Lisa was the primary hospice nurse for both my stepfather, J, and my mother, D. Lisa immediately became a trusted confidant for our parents and ourselves. Lisa allowed me to focus on being a daughter and not a nurse/caregiver. Here are some specific attributes Lisa demonstrated on every visit and phone call: Empathy/compassion when having the difficult conversations on changing needs (e.g. 24-hour care, value of lifelines, end of life wishes, pain, and suffering.) Always the advocate for mom and J (e.g. calls to doctors, being at the Manor for admission, securing meds in a timely manner, durable medical equipment, supplies, resource materials, and the bath aide. Connections- I loved Lisa's quote, "D, you have to live before you can die." Mom and Lisa connected personally on their connection of both being "RVers." Mom truly loved, trusted, listened, and looked forward to Lisa's visits. As I would tell her, you are my guardian angel.
