Lisa is the kind of nurse whose presence strengthens both the patient experience and the professional practice of the entire department. Her leadership is steady, her standards are exceptional, and her commitment to patients, families, and colleagues is unmistakable.

One example of her compassion and patient- and family-centered care stands out clearly. A patient called the department upset after receiving an After Visit Summary that indicated someone had spoken to her when that had not happened. The patient was frustrated and distressed. When the call was transferred to Lisa, she responded with calm professionalism, genuine empathy, and deep respect for the patient’s experience.

She listened carefully, acknowledged the frustration, apologized, explained the technical issue related to a system upgrade in a way that validated the patient’s perception, and offered next steps for additional redress. She then escalated the concern appropriately so it could be reviewed further. In that moment, Lisa demonstrated not only compassion, but also integrity, professionalism, and excellence in service recovery.

That same excellence shows in the way she protects patient safety and advocates for sound nursing practice. When a clinic referred a patient on high-dose U-500 insulin and a nurse had advised the patient to call RPSC with questions, Lisa recognized through chart review that this could not be safely managed through routine nursing follow-up because medication adjustments were not appropriate in that setting. She escalated the issue, circled back with the RN, and helped prevent the patient from being given the runaround. Her actions promoted safe, appropriate care and reflected both clinical excellence and professional integrity.

Lisa's professionalism is also evident in the way she manages the daily work of the department. She ensures the schedule is accurate and up to date, proactively plans and coordinates staffing needs, and helps operations run smoothly. Her reliability, commitment, and leadership as charge nurse make a real difference every day. She takes ownership of staffing, ensures assignments are covered, and anticipates what the team will need before problems arise.

This was especially evident in her work supporting CGM training, when she proactively reviewed CGM plans and trainee schedules, anticipated staffing needs, and stepped in when CGM superusers were unavailable. Her steady leadership ensured continuity, support for learners, and safe patient care.

Lisa also embodies teamwork and a deep commitment to improving professional practice. She leads the Clinical Ladder team in monthly meetings, helping aspiring clinical leaders identify meaningful projects and grow their leadership capabilities. One example was Skills Day 2025, where she helped lead work focused on reviewing, teaching, and improving practice through the use of GLOW in telephonic encounters. In doing so, she promoted compassionate communication, professional growth, and the everyday practice of KP values. She is not only a strong clinician and charge nurse, but also a teacher, mentor, and role model who actively develops others.

Her integrity and work ethic are extraordinary. She seldom calls out, offers help without being asked, and consistently shows up for the team in ways that reflect both humility and dedication. She trains new staff, answers workflow questions others cannot answer, and brings the wisdom and mastery that come from more than 20 years in the department. She is truly a pillar of RPSC.

Lisa, Charge RN, is deeply deserving of DAISY recognition because she consistently brings together the very qualities this honor represents: compassion, excellence, integrity, patient- and family-centered care, professionalism, and teamwork. Her impact is seen in the way she cares and elevates the practice of nursing every single day.

Thank you, Lisa M, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
