Several weeks ago, I was called to the orthopedics floor to clear a patient for operating room. The patient had fallen and required a surgical joint repair. Upon arriving to the bedside, I discovered that the patient had gone into some renal failure, and she had no urine output all night. Additionally the patient was complaining of flank pain. The surgeon had arrived and was planning to transport the patient to the operating room immediately, however, Lisa intervened and managed to get the patient to the ultrasound department, change her Intravenous fluids, and place a catheter, while arranging for the patient to go directly to the operating room if her ultrasound was negative. She also took time to update the family on the change of plans and to reassure the patient. This was in addition to her regular assignment of four other patients.
Lisa consistently demonstrates a very professional demeanor even when she is very busy. She never complains and always has an excellent understanding of her patients' needs and communicates these well with the rounding staff.
