The patient, as any of us would, became very emotional at hearing the news that her time with her spouse could be cut short, but Lisa was right there comforting the patient, crying with her, hugging her, and consoling her.
No one ever wants to hear the word cancer, but it must have been fate that this patient received word when she did.  Lisa Mooers (Internal Medicine LPN) has always been overflowing with compassion and empathy towards her patients, she gives them all exceptional care no matter what could be going on that day or in her life.  On this day in April, Lisa truly went above and beyond the duties of a nurse.

The patient had come in the morning to speak with Lisa prior to her appointment scheduled later that afternoon, with the doctor, about her appointment she just had and between the time the patient came in and the time Lisa came out to speak with her she had received a phone call from her husband (who had an appointment earlier) that he got the devastating news that he has cancer and was given less than 6 months to live. The patient, as any of us would, became very emotional at hearing the news that her time with her spouse could be cut short, but Lisa was right there comforting the patient, crying with her, hugging her, and consoling her.  Lisa then brought the patient back into a room so that she could speak with the doctor to see if they could see her sooner so she could go home to spend time with her spouse in the wake of this devastating news. The doctor usually goes home to have lunch but stayed, and he and Lisa got the patient in for their appointment over their lunch hour so that she could get back home to her husband and to support him through this hard diagnosis.

The doctor and Lisa are the best team, they both put patients first and are timely with their patients, it is evident by the fact that patients always feel welcome and a part of a family under the care of these two outstanding people. The employees in Bay 7 are proud to be able to say they work with them and are also considered a part of their family.

There are good nurses out there, and then there are nurses like Lisa Mooers who is one of the most exceptional nurses I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I hope neither I nor a loved one receives the diagnosis of having cancer, but if it ever comes to pass, I hope that there is a nurse like Lisa by my side.
