Lisa spent several hours again in full COVID PPE, in the patient's room, so he would not pass away alone and later cleaning and preparing him for the morgue.
I worked with Lisa on the COVID unit for two days. One of Lisa's patient's conditions continued to worsen over the course of the weekend. Lisa spent many hours in this patient's room, facilitating communication for the family via iPad (because they could not be there in person). She spent several hours in the room in full PPE, and would come out covered sweat but always saying how she wanted the patient and family cared for. When the patient passed away, she spent several hours again in full COVID PPE, in the patient's room, so he would not pass away alone and later cleaning and preparing him for the morgue. She did all of this with a smile on her face. To me, this epitomizes excellence in nursing. She cares for both patient and family in some of the most trying conditions. She held the patient's hand as he died so he would not be alone. She facilitated the family saying goodbye when they could not be physically present. She 100% is a DAISY Nurse.
