Our son was born when I was only 29 weeks pregnant. He came out a fighter, but I can't put into words what a scary time that was for our family. His first weekend in the hospital, Lisa was his night nurse and boy was she amazing!
Lisa took the time to explain each and every procedure that was happening to him and never hesitated to answer my questions, even when I was asking some of the same questions multiple times throughout his stay. I struggled so much emotionally after his arrival and Lisa picked up on my need for some stability very early on and with my son's first week in the NICU, she requested to be his primary nurse. That day I had a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and felt so much more at ease knowing that my son and I would be seeing this same nurse multiple times each week.
There is nothing more heartbreaking than having to tuck your baby into bed each night and then leave them in the care of perfect strangers, but the nights Lisa was working, it was always a little easier for me to leave and I always slept a little better because I had no doubt that he was in the very best hands. I have no doubt in my mind that she showed him the same love and compassion that she gives to her own kids at home and it meant the world to me to know that I didn't need to worry about him when I couldn't be there.
My son and I both had many ups and downs during his stay, but Lisa was there every step of the way and she always made sure that I was a big part of his major milestones. She cheered us on, laughed with us, cried with us and every night she worked, I had this wonderful feeling that even though I couldn't be with him, he had a "Mom" by his side that truly loved him.
Lisa is the perfect example of what a nurse should be! She's kind, compassionate, patient, caring, funny and it's clear she doesn't look at what she does as "just a job." She pours her heart and soul into her patients and it truly makes a difference during a stressful time for families! She will hold a special place in our hearts forever!
