Ms. Rice had to hang out with me in this tiny room for at least an extra hour, waiting patiently to move me to the next nurse, she did a great job to keep my anxiety and patience in check.
I recently was scheduled for a colonoscopy in the early afternoon. Ms. Rice was the admitting nurse. Much paperwork, cordial, and professional discussion. We both had to wait for approximately 1.5 hours until a reason for the longer than usual delay came in- someone was waiting for a mop to arrive someplace! Shortly thereafter, other nurses congregated just outside my holding room, one seeming to be Ms. Rice's supervisor. I heard her ask Ms. Rice to be the sedation nurse AND to also be the attending nurse in the operating room "because so and so (nurse) had to leave at 5:00 and due to delay it was pretty obvious that I would not be finished by 5 pm, Ms. Rice said "Yes". As an aside, due to COVID-19 restrictions, our grandson's graduation ceremony in NYC had been recently set up as a virtual Zoom one starting at 5 pm through a computer or iPad. After Ms. Rice had to hang out with me in this tiny room for at least an extra hour, waiting patiently to move me to the next nurse, she did a great job to keep my anxiety and patience in check, coming more from my realizing I might miss our grandson's whole graduation, than any anxiety over the looming colonoscopy.
In short, Ms. Rice ended up doing it all, three roles that I could make out instead of one, continuing right through the procedure. And she was very kind to give me many options and suggestions where my husband and I could find WiFi areas safely outside to watch part of my grandson's graduation after I was discharged. Ms. Rice made sure my husband was kept informed about my progress inside during the delay. All of what she did was much appreciated. I felt it was more than what would be expected.
