Beyond her clinical excellence, Lisa brings a sense of calm, teamwork, and compassion wherever she goes.
I am nominating Lisa Shutt, one of our float nurses, for the DAISY Award because she truly exemplifies the spirit of nursing excellence, compassion, and dedication across our hospital.

Lisa has been part of our hospital family for seven, almost eight years, serving as a night float nurse for the past five years. In a role that demands adaptability and strong clinical judgment, she consistently brings calm professionalism, teamwork, and genuine care to every unit she supports. Lisa’s commitment to patient safety and team success shines through, no matter where she is assigned.

Most recently, Lisa was among the first nurses to help open the new West 1 unit, which was converted from the pediatric/telemedicine area to accommodate overflow patients from East 4 during construction. When she arrived on her first night shift, she quickly recognized that the unit lacked essential supplies. Rather than accept the situation, Lisa took immediate action — coordinating with the nursing supervisor to identify and obtain the necessary equipment and supplies. She ensured that the floor was equipped with a code cart and EKG machine, both of which were missing when the unit first opened. Her initiative, problem-solving, and advocacy directly improved patient safety and helped the team operate smoothly during a challenging transition.

Beyond her clinical excellence, Lisa brings a sense of calm, teamwork, and compassion wherever she goes. She is the type of nurse who quietly ensures that everything — and everyone — is taken care of. Coworkers describe her as dependable, organized, and always willing to help. She makes every unit she visits stronger and more cohesive simply by being there.

Float nurses often work behind the scenes, adapting to new environments each shift without the consistency of a home unit. Yet Lisa approaches every assignment with professionalism, kindness, and the same high standard of care. Her contributions ripple far beyond her nightly assignments — improving workflows, patient outcomes, and team morale throughout the hospital.

Lisa embodies what the DAISY Award stands for: extraordinary clinical skill, compassion, and a deep commitment to the values of nursing. She is an invaluable member of our hospital community.
