In November, our family suffered the devastating loss of our beloved grandma and mom. Barely two weeks later, my only daughter, was to undergo back surgery. Other than traumatic miscarriages, this would be her only "real" surgery.
She was mourning the loss of her grandmother that Thanksgiving and was scared and anxious beyond belief. Lisa was the most compassionate and empathetic person; my girl could not have been luckier to have her guiding her through this terrifying event and it was, because being in St. Joes only reminded her of her losses and that made it twice as difficult.
Lisa, calmer than we could have hoped for, helped my daughter to accept pain meds and talked to her like her late grandma would have - calmly and with such care. Lisa deserves this award because I truly believe she is this same wonderful nurse to all St. Joes patients as she was to my daughter and that truly makes her a very special nurse.
