I am nominating Lisa due to my personal experience with her. In September 2009, Lisa was my nurse when I delivered my stillborn son at 33 weeks gestation. Lisa was very supportive to my family and me. She laughed and cried with us. When Lisa told us she had the next day off, we were a little bummed and wondered what our next nurse would be like. We were surprised when Lisa walked in the next day. She came in on her day off just to be supportive.
Lisa was very professional during my stay. She was very good at making us comfortable and got us whatever we needed. She worked very well with the other nurse and explained to them everything that was going on. Lisa is a nurse that will always have a special place in our hearts.

I am nominating Lisa for her actions on December 2011. Lisa was not scheduled, but came in extra to help. When she arrived on OB, they had just found out that a patient had a stillbirth, her baby had passed before it was born. The nurse taking care of this patient was visibly upset, having just found this out. Lisa offered to care for this patient. This is a very difficult assignment on our floor. It is emotionally draining.
Lisa is very compassionate and does a very good job, especially with these patients. She even stayed after her shift, until this patient delivered, having already bonded with her. This is the third fetal demise or stillbirth that I can easily recall that Lisa has cared for. And, I know one of these patients was so grateful they wrote her a thank you letter and requested to have her as their labor nurse when they were expecting again.
Lisa does a great job every day, but with these patients she is superb.

I chose to nominate Lisa Sortedahl because of a day that she came into work on her day off when it was very busy in our department. When she arrived she noticed a co-worker upset in the hallway. She asked the co-worker what was wrong and found she was upset because of a patient with stillborn baby. Lisa, without hesitation, asked her, "Do you want me to take the patient?" Lisa jumped in and took very good care of the patient. She is always very compassionate with these patients and goes above and beyond to make it easier for them.
