Where do I begin? Lisa Stezaker embodies what every nurse should aspire to be and leads by example. She is skilled and knowledgeable and she shares her wisdom with the family, patiently explaining what is happening with their loved one in terms they can understand. She is compassionate and empathetic, yet firm with the patient when it is in their best interests, so they will not undo the healing progress made.
We felt she understood the emotions we were experiencing, displaying empathy and helping calm some of our fears. She goes out of her way to support the family and seemed to anticipate our and son’s needs, always one step ahead of us. She connected with our son, relating to what he was going through, and I could tell he trusted her, felt “safe” with her presence, and displayed meticulous attention to detail, from dressing changes, to loosening Velcro that was too tight, to coaching him with a visit from his gramma.
Lisa is truly an angel from God and we are so very grateful to her for all she has done to care not only for the patient, but us, the patient’s support system during this emotional roller coaster ride. She certainly chose the right vocation, a better nurse could not be found.
