After all this time in the hospital with my daughter, I believe I have figured out the difference between a good nurse and an exceptional one. The exceptional ones have a servant's heart. They don't just think of how they can help the child medically, they think of ways to serve the child and his/her family. It doesn't take long on your first shift with Lisa to see her servant's heart of gold. Lisa is always sure to do everything as it should be (medically) but goes the extra mile to make sure everyone is taken care of in every way. My daughter adores her and asks for her daily. She has cleared my daughter's tray every single night when she's finished with dinner. If she hears that she wants a bottle, Lisa not only quickly goes and gets the milk but also washes and scrubs our cup from home so that my daughter can drink from her favorite cup. She has changed the bed linens if they've needed it while my daughter is in the shower so she has a fresh bed each night. These are the things that make this hospital life a little easier. You see, these four walls begin to close in on you and that stinky tray from a meal hours ago, and those bed sheets with food on them from dinner don't let you forget their existence. I want to do as I do at home and just fix these things but while I am in here I can't, and that's not easy for a momma to accept. Every nurse we have had at Children's holds a special place in our heart for their kindness and compassion, but Lisa is a true DAISY Nurse for her caregiving attitude and her desire to go above and beyond.
